🥾 About the Event

Experience the vibrant colours of Fall while stepping back in time on this guided hike through Long Lake Provincial Park, one of Halifax’s most cherished green spaces. Retired professor and environmental advocate Dr. Martin Willison will lead us through the park’s wide, accessible trails while sharing fascinating insights into its past.

You’ll learn about:

  • The Long Lake Dam, built in the 1850s as part of Halifax’s early water system
  • The site of the historic pumping station that once served the city
  • A former granite stone quarry, key to Halifax’s early infrastructure
  • And much more through stories passed down as oral local history

This hike is suitable for all fitness levels and offers a unique opportunity to connect with fellow PMI members, enjoy nature, and gain a deeper appreciation for Nova Scotia’s environmental and civic history.
