🥾 About the Event
Celebrate the colours of autumn with PMI Nova Scotia during a guided group hike through Hemlock Ravine Park, one of Halifax’s distinctive historic green spaces.
Participants will have an opportunity to explore the park’s interconnected trails while learning about its natural and local history, including its old-growth Eastern Hemlocks and iconic heart-shaped pond.
The grounds have a fascinating connection to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who lived on the estate during his time in Halifax. The original pond was later reshaped into its distinctive heart form during a visit by his grandson, Prince Arthur, in 1869.
This approximately 4–5 km hike is suitable for most fitness levels and provides an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, meet fellow members of the PMI Nova Scotia community and experience a unique part of Halifax’s natural and civic heritage.
You’ll learn about:
- The Heart Shaped Pond, built by one of Prince Edward's grandsons in 1869.
- The site of the trees that are over 300 years old and 80 feet tall.
This hike is suitable for all fitness levels and offers a unique opportunity to connect with fellow PMI members, enjoy nature, and gain a deeper appreciation for Nova Scotia’s environmental and civic history.
