Senior Project Coordinator, Nova Scotia Power TBD Managing Through the Pain Points: Inclusive Leadership, Psychological Safety, and the Power of Showing Up Leadership and team management "Inclusive leadership is often discussed as a set of competencies, frameworks, or best practices—but far less often as a deeply human skill shaped by lived experience. This session reframes inclusive leadership and psychological safety through the lens of the speaker’s journey as a project leader living with chronic illness and disability.
Drawing on real-world project environments, the presentation explores why inclusion is not a “nice to have,” but a critical driver of trust, resilience, and performance. Attendees will examine how assumptions about productivity, availability, and “professionalism” can unintentionally exclude talented contributors—and how psychological safety enables teams to surface risks earlier, adapt faster, and deliver better outcomes.
Through practical examples, reflective storytelling, and actionable takeaways, this session challenges project managers to rethink what strong leadership looks like when not everyone starts from the same place. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how inclusive leadership practices such as empathy, flexibility, and transparent communication create psychologically safe teams where people can do their best work without having to hide, overcompensate, or burn out.
This presentation invites project professionals to lead in a way that acknowledges complexity, values humanity, and ultimately strengthens both teams and results.
" This presentation benefits project managers by showing how inclusive leadership and psychological safety directly improve project outcomes—not just team morale. Grounded in real project environments and lived experience, it helps PMs recognize how common assumptions about productivity, availability, and professionalism can unintentionally increase risk, reduce engagement, and limit performance. Attendees gain practical insights into how empathy, flexibility, and transparent communication enable teams to surface issues earlier, adapt more effectively, and sustain high performance without burnout. Ultimately, the session equips project managers to lead more resilient, trustworthy teams and deliver better results in complex, real‑world conditions.

She is a PMP-certified project management professional, PROSCI certified change management professional and Organization Transformation certified. Tanya enjoys leading teams through change, improving processes, and thinking differently on how work gets done. In her off time, she enjoys travelling around the world, playing hockey and spending time with her family including her two cats, Marshall & Meridith. Making the Invisible Visible: Lessons Learned from Implementing a Continual Improvement Program Stakeholder engagement and communication "Most of us think about continual improvement every day. You streamline processes, solve problems, and make operations run smoothly. But how often do you get to hear the unfiltered truth about what actually happens when someone designs and implements a continual improvement program from scratch?
This session offers a transparent look at lessons learned from designing and rolling out a technology-enabled continual improvement program. You'll hear about the ""what, why, and how"" of the design but more importantly, you'll get the story of implementation: what worked, what spectacularly didn't, and the uncomfortable pivots required along the way.
Discover early wins that exceeded expectations, resistance that came from unexpected places, and the messy reality of getting people engaged in tracking and visibility. Learn about the moments of struggle and best practices from someone willing to share both the successes and the failures.
As a PM professional who loves a good lessons learned session, you'll hear first hand of how it's going. Leave with insights already earned through trial and error so you don't have to repeat the mistakes, plus the real talk about what it takes to create lasting change...including the parts we don't want to admit." Reflect on what's working in your projects and what's not and how you might embed in continual improvement in YOUR everyday.

" Transforming Crisis into Permanent PMO Delivery Excellence Leadership and team management "This session explores how Nova Scotia Power transformed a major disruption into a catalyst for long-term PMO excellence. We will examine the creation of a temporary “Recovery Office” during a crisis period and how its practices evolved into permanent ways of working. The discussion will highlight how urgency enabled faster decision-making, streamlined governance, and stronger cross-functional alignment, ultimately reshaping how large programs are delivered. Through real examples, we will demonstrate how crisis-driven innovation can unlock sustainable transformation and elevate PMO maturity beyond traditional models.
Key Takeaways
• How to convert crisis-response structures into lasting PMO capabilities
• Identifying which “recovery shortcuts” can safely become standard efficiencies
• Evolving risk appetite and governance models in a post-incident environment
• Strengthening executive reporting and decision-making under pressure
• Practical strategies to turn disruption into a blueprint for continuous improvement
" "This session provides practical, real-world insights into how project managers can turn crisis situations into opportunities for lasting improvement. Attendees will learn how to operate effectively under pressure while still maintaining governance, alignment, and delivery outcomes. The discussion highlights how adaptive ways of working - often born out of necessity during incidents-can be intentionally embedded into standard PMO practices to improve speed, resilience, and decision-making.
From a professional development perspective, project managers will gain strategies to reassess risk appetite, streamline reporting, and strengthen stakeholder communication in high stakes environments. Most importantly, the session equips PMs with a mindset shift: viewing disruptions not just as challenges to manage, but as catalysts to modernize processes, elevate PMO maturity, and deliver greater long-term value to the organization.

She leads design on major capital projects with Build Nova Scotia's Healthcare Division. She is passionate about bridging the gap between design, construction, and the human side of project delivery. HARD HATS & SOFT SKILLS-What Construction PM Actually Teaches You About Leading People Leadership and team management "Most project managers enter construction with solid credentials, a PMP, a methodology, a plan. What they rarely have is preparation for the environment they're walking into: fragmented teams, evolving scope, decisions made with incomplete information, and stakeholders they have no authority over.
This session explores the gap between what formal PM training teaches and what construction projects actually demand. Drawing on experience managing major public healthcare infrastructure, this talk goes beyond frameworks and tools to examine the human skills that determine whether a project moves or stalls.
Attendees will explore three core competencies that construction PM develops — and that no certification fully prepares you for: influencing without authority, deciding under ambiguity, and translating across the professional languages of design, construction, and operations. The session also addresses what it means to earn credibility in a complex project environment, and why practitioners who come from outside the traditional construction path often bring unexpected strengths.
Participants will leave with practical mindset shifts they can apply immediately, a clearer understanding of where leadership matters more than tools, and a new lens for recognizing the skills they may already have and didn't know to name." "Construction projects fail more often because of people problems than technical ones, yet most PM training focuses almost entirely on tools and processes.
This session gives project managers an honest look at the skills that actually move construction projects forward: influencing without authority, making decisions under ambiguity, and communicating across disciplines. Whether they're new to construction or seasoned practitioners, attendees leave with practical shifts they can apply immediately and a clearer understanding of the leadership capabilities they may already have but haven't fully recognized."

He has led governance and vendor assurance improvements in complex technology environments, with a focus on turning risk management from a documentation exercise into an operational discipline.
His work spans vendor risk assessment, incident response readiness, audit preparation, security programme maturity, privacy governance, artificial intelligence governance, and digital trust. He holds an LLM in telecommunications law and brings legal, technical, and executive-facing fluency to governance challenges inside major technology and business transformation projects.
His speaking and writing focus on closing the gap between formal policy, vendor platform behaviour, and operational control." Vendor Risk Is Now a Project Management Problem Risk management and mitigation strategies "Summary:
Vendor risk now sits inside project delivery. Exposure is often created during requirements, product selection, configuration, data mapping, access design, integrations, and operational handover – well before security, privacy, legal, or audit teams can meaningfully intervene.
This session will show project managers how third-party risk becomes embedded in delivery decisions, why late-stage approval gates often fail, and where common control breakdowns occur. Topics include unclear risk ownership, weak evidence collection, misaligned platform configurations, poor exit planning, and treating security or privacy review as an administrative checkpoint rather than a delivery dependency.
Attendee Takeaways:
Attendees will leave with a practical governance lens for identifying vendor-related risk earlier in the project lifecycle, improving coordination across security, privacy, legal, procurement, and business teams, and building stronger risk evidence into delivery artefacts before launch." "Project managers increasingly deliver systems that create security, privacy, vendor, operational, and compliance consequences. This session helps them recognise third-party risk earlier in the project lifecycle, ask better questions during planning and implementation, and avoid late-stage issues that delay launch or weaken control outcomes.
The session gives project managers a practical way to connect delivery discipline with governance accountability. Attendees will leave better equipped to coordinate with security, privacy, legal, procurement, and business owners, while building stronger evidence, clearer ownership, and more defensible project decisions before systems go live."

Recognized as the 2025 Obsidi Breakout Professional of the Year, Technology Division, she is an emerging voice at the intersection of delivery excellence, people leadership, and AI adoption in project management.
Ellie brings the same rigour she applies in the field to every learning experience she designs. Her workshops are grounded in real-world project scenarios, PMI best practices, and a conviction that exceptional project managers lead people first and manage plans second, and that AI, when used well, amplifies that leadership rather than replacing it.
" Leading Smarter: AI-Augmented Leadership for the Modern Project Manager Leadership and team management "PMI research tells us that when Project Professionals apply all four elements of M.O.R.E. — Manage Perceptions, Own Project Success, Relentlessly Reassess, and Expand Perspective — the Net Project Success Score jumps from 27 to 94. Yet only 7% of practitioners apply all four today. The gap is not knowledge. It is practice, confidence, and the right tools.
Artificial intelligence is reshaping every layer of project delivery. The project managers who will thrive are those who lead best, with AI serving as the force multiplier that enables it.
This hands-on workshop brings all four elements of M.O.R.E. to life through the lens of AI-augmented leadership. Participants will not just hear about AI, they will use it live in real PM scenarios, practicing each M.O.R.E. element as a leadership skill. Together, we step up.
What you will do:
• Complete a quick leadership self-assessment anchored to PMI's 12 Project Management Principles — identifying where you are already delivering M.O.R.E. and where AI can close the gap
• Watch AI-augmented leadership modelled across real stakeholder, team, and executive scenarios that map to each M.O.R.E. element
• Practice curated PM prompts with peers on challenges from your own projects: managing perceptions, owning outcomes, reassessing parameters, and expanding perspective
• Build a personalized AI Prompt Cheat Sheet organized by M.O.R.E. element and leadership moment
What you will take away:
1. A Leadership Snapshot Card — your M.O.R.E. profile, your gaps, your next step
2. A PM AI Prompt Cheat Sheet — organized by M.O.R.E. element, ready to use tomorrow
This session is designed for practicing PMs at all experience levels. No AI expertise is required. Curiosity and a commitment to stepping up are the only prerequisites.
Proposed Session Length:
I am proposing 90 minutes to allow adequate time for the hands-on workshop and peer-practice components that make this session meaningful. I am happy to discuss a 60-minute condensed version if the program requires it, though some workshop depth would be reduced.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify their dominant leadership style and one high-impact growth area using PMI's 12 Project Management Principles as a framework
- Apply at least three AI prompting techniques to common PM leadership challenges (stakeholder communication, team dynamics, decision support)
- Leave with a personalized AI Prompt Cheat Sheet ready to use on active projects" Project managers today face two simultaneous pressures: mastering AI tools reshaping delivery and stepping up to own project success beyond task execution. This session addresses both directly. Grounded in PMI's M.O.R.E. framework and the 12 Project Management Principles, it offers participants a live, structured experience using AI as a leadership tool across all four M.O.R.E. elements. With only 7% of Project Professionals currently applying all four, this session provides a practical path to joining that group. Participants leave with two immediately deployable tools and the confidence to apply them to active projects the next day, shifting from knowing about AI to leading with it.
